During his BSc in Biochemistry at King's College London, Jayme worked on a project using NMR to study the interactions of the muscle proteins titin and obscurin. For his Structural Biology MRes at Imperial, he joined our lab to work on cryo-EM helical reconstruction of the intracerebrally passaged ex vivo prion strain RML, with a particular focus on resolving the structures of its minor conformers. Jayme was extremely creative, including venturing into developing his own custom software picking (selecting) prion filaments in cryo-EM images. He is now doing a PhD at King's College London and The Pirbright Institute, working with the groups of Dr Chad Swanson, Prof Melanie Bailey and Prof Nicolas Locker, using mass spectrometry to study the proteomes of single stress granules during viral infection.
